Meet the New EKU Farm Director
Justin McKinney has recently accepted the position of Director of Farms at Eastern Kentucky University. McKinney has deep roots in southeastern U.S. agriculture and studied at the University of Florida (UF), a land-grant institution. He holds an undergraduate degree in agribusiness management and a graduate degree in agronomy.
McKinney’s work experience includes running his family’s farming operation and serving UF for 14 years as a research coordinator/operations manager. His support system includes his wife, a stay-at-home mom who left her career as a veterinarian to raise their four young sons. His hobbies include bass fishing, hunting, and spending time with his sons.
McKinney is eager to serve the Madison County community by working with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service Agent Mr. Brandon Sears, to host an EKU/UK collaborative field day this fall at EKU’s Meadowbrook Farm. The Meadowbrook Farm is currently implementing dairy grazing lanes, a new beef handling facility, and embarking on a complete pasture renovation project.
As Director, McKinney states, “My hope is that Meadowbrook Farm can be utilized as a demonstration farm which adopts the newest science-based techniques in agriculture to improve the educational quality for our students and community in and surrounding EKU.”
