Meadowbrook Farms helps bring Kentucky beef into local Kroger stores
On March 20, 2018, National Agriculture Day, the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy joined Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles, Beef Solutions, LLC and Kroger today to mark the launch of Kentucky Cattlemen’s ground beef available at select Kentucky Kroger locations.
“In May 2017, Beef Solutions, LLC received a grant from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund (KADF) to establish a Kentucky ground beef supply management project with Kroger. One-pound packages, as well as two-pound (four patties) packages, are now available at 85 select stores across the state.” The Lake News
This project has launched with help from Director Justin McKinney and staff at Meadowbrook Farm, and their collaboration with the Kentucky’s Cattlemen Association. They are providing the animals, animal care, and expertise to help bring this project to life.
Justin has undertaken many challenges that have presented themselves though out this project and has assisted Kentucky farmers to improve the value of their beef cattle resources. Additionally, he is developing heath and food strategies that will become industry standard for regional marketing of beef cull cows.
The beef is not only produced by local farmers, it is also processed and packaged in Kentucky facilities. Kentucky families are now able to purchase these products and support Kentucky agriculture in local Kroger stores across the state.
