Governor Hosts Cookout Featuring Kentucky Beef

Governor's cookout on the Capitol Lawn in Frankfort

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin showed his support for local beef farmers with a Cookout at the Capitol.

EKU Farm Director Justin McKinney joined Governor Bevin and Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles on May 2nd as they fired up the grill. Kentucky ground beef patties were grilled on the Kentucky State Capitol lawn and then served to capitol goers and invited guests.

The Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association and the Kentucky Beef Council donated 2,000 pounds of ground beef to God’s Pantry Food Bank as part of giving back to the Kentucky communities struggling with food insecurity.

According to McKinney, "Since the program's inception in 2017, EKU’s Meadowbrook Farm has provided a large amount of the beef being utilized by the Kentucky Cattlemen’s ground beef program which is marketed and distributed by the Kentucky Beef Council to 85 local Kroger retail outlets." He continued to say that EKU is pleased to continue to support this locally sustainable Kentucky Proud initiative since the first purchase of cows last November.
