Eastern Kentucky University offers many different academic and athletic programs, all unique. In order to high-light one of these unique programs, EKU athletics and the EKU Department of Agriculture are teaming together to host “Celebrate Agriculture Day” at the Colonels’ football game against Tennessee State University on Sept. 28.

The event-filled day will begin with activities at noon that will include tours of Meadowbrook Farm, tours of the EKU Horticulture and Agriculture facilities, Agriculture Olympics, as well as a petting zoo in the tailgate lot. Free Mad Scoops ice cream and t-shirts will be offered as well. The EKU vs. TSU Football game kick-off is at 6PM.  The concession stands will be selling EKU beef and Kentucky Proud products.

The EKU Department of Agriculture offers students an array of degrees and concentrations including Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Horticulture, Agriculture, Turfgrass and Landscape, Animal Science as well as a new concentration as of fall 2019: Agriculture Engineering Technology. Not only are students taught in the classroom but they are also given hands on experience in laboratories at the Meadowbrook Farm, greenhouses and turfgrass plots.

The Meadowbrook Farm, established in 1974, includes beef, dairy, swine, sheep and goat livestock operations along with the cultivation of corn and other forage crops. It provides practical experience for those studying agriculture or related subjects while serving as a learning resource for the general agriculture community. Please RSVP in order to tour the 720 acres of the farm between 12-2PM on Sept. 28.

Horticulture students work with the greenhouse operations, garden displays as well as turf plots which are all located on campus. The program encompasses greenhouse management, floriculture, landscape designs and Nursery Management. The department maintains and operates five greenhouses, landscape areas, specimen areas, as well as a shade house.

All of the Celebrate Agriculture Day events on campus will occur in the Alumni Coliseum parking lot. Bring your friends and family for a day of agriculture, fun, food and football!
